Cold War

Cold War

Cold War co-written by Taylor with Sir Jeremy Isaacs was a best seller when first published to accompany the 24-part television series of the same name shown by CNN in the US, the BBC in the UK and all around the world.

The book describes the events of the forty-five year confrontation between two great powers that continues to define the modern world. It is the story of the constant threat of nuclear destruction, of crises and proxy wars on a global scale, from Berlin to Korea, from Cuba to the Middle East. It tells of spies, student riots and encounters in space. It is also a story of shifting economic fortune and dramatic social change, of oil price rises, blue jeans, rock ‘n roll and of persecution and violence. Richly detailed and easy to read, Cold War draws on historical archives and individual testimony from statesmen and people simply caught up in events. It is a unique and gripping account of this unprecedented period, as relevant today as it was thirty years ago.

Extensively used in schools, colleges and universities as well as accessible to the general reader, Professor Peter Hennessy said of Cold War ‘This is a book that deserves to last.’
